10 Points to Guide You in Designing a Home That Will Make You Happy
Decoration is like art. It is not based on specific fixed rules or secret recipes. Decorating is a process that typically requires creativity and constant exploration of different products and ideas. This process, which involves a bit of imagination, a bit of inspiration, a bit of research, and mostly trial and error, usually takes years to master. However, there are still some steps that every homeowner can take to create a beautiful and powerful decor.
Painting the house is the most common practice, especially before moving into a new home. This is an easy-to-understand practice for every homeowner or tenant. However, this is not the ideal approach. Especially brands like Filli Boya, Dyo, Marshall, Polisan, and Jotun have hundreds of different colors, each with dozens of different shades. Each of these colors will look different in every home.

This is because the light that enters each home, the colors of the furniture, and the reflections are all different. Even between the home you currently live in and the home you are moving to, the same color can create different effects. Of course, when choosing colors, you should select the colors that best match your belongings and carpets. However, before choosing your color, you should try out different colors on specific areas of your wall for a while.
Always avoid overcrowding a room with furniture. Being able to move comfortably within the room should always be your priority. Instead of buying more furniture, using fewer but higher-quality pieces will naturally make your room look more beautiful. As seen in the photo on the side, even a small room can feel spacious. A single chair adds such a large and different style to this room without overwhelming it.

Your choice of paintings should reflect who you are
Instead of just hanging any painting, remember that the painting you choose should not only fill the wall but also reflect who you are. Let me give you a suggestion to inspire you: Professionals in the field, such as art galleries and museums, generally hang paintings at a height of 150-160 cm. Especially in homes with high ceilings, you may want to hang paintings and artwork higher up. However, it is important to ensure that the artwork is at eye level.
Additionally, the best approach is to test the placement before deciding on a final location. You can hold the artwork without hanging it, take photos, and determine the most suitable spot.
Carpet placement preferences
All legs on the carpet: This method is suitable if the carpet is large enough to cover all the legs of the living room furniture. This creates a very luxurious look. It is important to note that the carpet should be 30-50 cm away from the wall. After all, you are using a carpet that is not wall-to-wall.
All legs outside: In small rooms, using a rug that leaves all furniture legs outside is extremely cost-effective. Instead of choosing a very small rug, the most suitable method is to select a rug that touches the front legs of the entire furniture set.
Front legs on top: Keep the front legs of all furniture on the rug at the same height. This creates a neat appearance and makes the space feel more spacious.
Follow fashion, but don’t conform to it.
Remember that this is your home and you will be using this decor for 10-15 years, maybe even longer. It is certainly important to follow the fashion of the day, but the best option is to have the decor done according to your own taste. This way, you will avoid the standard clichés that were done at the same time and can be seen in many different places.
Create a Focal Point
In every film, there is one or two lead actors, along with supporting actors. Think of your home decor in the same way. Create one or at most two focal points in a room. This could be a countertop in the kitchen, a fireplace or painting in the living room, or a headboard in the bedroom. If you have more than two main actors, the decor will look extremely cluttered. Therefore, you will need to make every accessory next to the main actor into a supporting role.

Manage Your Accessories
Don’t use home accessories that don’t match your home or room. Even if your mother gave it to you as a birthday present, don’t keep an item that doesn’t match. A beautiful accessory you saw in a store may turn out to be a small item that doesn’t fit anywhere in your home or is an insignificant detail.
Where you place an accessory, how it will look there, and whether it can be complemented by other accessories are all very important. The best approach is to first ask about the dimensions of an accessory you see in a store, or even take a photo of it and review it again at home.
Create Different Layers of Light
Create different layers of light in all your rooms, whether large or small. Instead of a single light source, using different lighting techniques can significantly change the ambiance of the room. Adding extra light to the focal point mentioned above, using different spotlights to ensure everything in the room is equally illuminated, or using lampshades can help create a pleasant and unique ambiance.

Be Bold and Ready for Change
Remember, your home is yours and should reflect your personality. Therefore, the more you try, the more you will learn, and you will know what works and what doesn’t.
Sometimes, an item you purchase and use simply because you like it, but which is unexpected in that room, can completely transform the atmosphere of the space.
The lines of different decoration styles serve only as a starting point for you, and some of them are not even practical in many homes. Therefore, proceed with your own personal style and be comfortable.
